NBCU goes cold on Chiller

Slasher was coproduced with Super Channel in Canada

NBCUniversal (NBCU) is set to shut down Chiller, its channel dedicated to the horror genre, at the end of the year.

The network will go dark at midnight on December 31, having recently been dropped by carriers such as Dish, Spectrum, Mediacom, Verizon Fios and Cox in the US.

The channel launched in the US in early 2007 and aired a mix of horror and thriller content from studios such as Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox, as well as NBCU.

Its original content included Chiller 13: The Decade’s Scariest Movie Moments, Steve Niles’ Remains and Slasher, a coproduction with Super Channel in Canada.

It also acquired programming including Fear Factor, Afterlife, Apparitions, Tokyo Majin and Masters of Horror.

The closure comes after NBCU also decided to shut down the linear feeds of two other specialist channels in its roster, Esquire Network and Cloo, earlier this year.
