US broadcast network NBC has greenlit a local version of an unscripted Israeli show from Armoza Formats, with singer Nicole Scherzinger signed up to star.
The channel is moving straight into a six-episode series of I Can Do That for its primetime schedule this summer.
The US version will be hosted by comedian and actor Marlon Wayans and will comprise a cast of six celebrities including singer Nicole Scherzinger, comedian Jeff Dye and actor Alan Ritchson.
Each week the six cast members will pair off in teams of two to demonstrate entertainment skills they didn’t know they had. If, while watching a demonstration from an expert, the celebrities believe they can match the performance, they volunteer for the challenge and undergo a week of training.
Universal Television is producing the adaptation with Audrey Morrisey (The Voice) and Matilda Zoltowski (Dancing with the Stars) executive producing. The show will premiere with a two-hour special followed by five hour-long shows.
Spain’s Antena 3, Nova TV in Bulgaria, Rai Uno in Italy and Rede Record in Brazil are all working on local versions of the show.
