NBC orders ITV’s Takeaway

NBC in the US has commissioned a local version of UK entertainment format Saturday Night Takeaway, to be presented by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.

The US broadcaster has ordered 10 episodes of the variety series, which will be produced by ITV Studios (ITVS) America and filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Co-created by ITVS alongside its UK presenters, Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (aka Ant and Dec), the series first began airing in a primetime slot on Saturday nights on ITV in 2002.

Since then, 78 episodes of the format, which mixes games with celebrity appearances, have been produced.

The show regularly attracts audiences in the region of 7.5 million, according to ITV, while a twelfth season is due to air next year in the UK.

McPartlin, Donnelly and Patrick Harris will serve as executive producers of the US version, alongside Orly Adelson, president of ITVS America, and Siobhan Greene, director of entertainment, ITVS UK.

Patrick Harris starred in all nine seasons of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and is set to host the forthcoming Oscars Ceremony on February 22.

The US version marks the first international remake of the format, which is distributed by ITVS Global Entertainment.
