NBC builds church drama

US network NBC is developing a drama series set around a Texas church with the co-creator of its recently pulled series Camp.

Liz Heldens is writing the script for the as-yet untitled show, which explores how the community adapts following the death of the church’s leader and looks at the family struggles that go on behind closed doors.

The show will be produced by Universal TV and David Janollari Entertainment, with Janollari, who is also developing comedy show Sister Whipped for CBS, exec producing alongside Heldens.

Heldens, who created NBC show Mercy and Deception, most recently worked on Camp, which was pulled by NBC after one season.
