Nat Geo returns to Cosmos, Story of God

The Story of God with Morgan Freeman is set for a third run

US factual cablenet National Geographic has greenlit new seasons of its Emmy-winning space exploration series Cosmos and Morgan Freeman’s The Story of God.

Cosmos: Possible Worlds will again be written and directed by Ann Druyan with executive producers Seth McFarlane, Brannon Braga and Jason Clark.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will return as host of the 13-part season which will air on Nat Geo in the US and on Fox and Nat Geo around the world.

The show is produced by Cosmos Studios, the company Druyan founded in 2000 alongside McFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Productions, and the first season aired in 2014.

The series pays homage to the late Carl Sagan’s award-winning series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which aired in 13 parts in 1980.

The commission was revealed as part of Nat Geo’s presentation to the Television Critics Association, where a third season of The Story of God with Morgan Freeman was also announced.

The show’s third run will again follow Freeman on an international journey as he discovers the power of religion by speaking with religious leaders, scientists, historians and archeologists.

Nat Geo has signed a first-look agreement with the show’s producer, Revelations Entertainment, and the third season will air globally on Nat Geo in 2019.
