Light the Ocean (1×60’ HD) will use computer animation and scientific research to reveal structures and landscapes including coral gardens and giant canyons hidden beneath the sea.

Michael Cascio, executive VP of programming at Nat Geo, said: “Light the Ocean allows National Geographic Channel viewers to experience the ocean in an entirely new way – removing visual barriers to illustrate a breath-taking underwater world normally concealed kilometres below the surface.”

Previous collaborations between Parthenon and Nat Geo include Mystery Files, which investigates the secret pasts of historical figures such as Lawrence of Arabia and Adolf Hitler; and Wild Russia, about the country’s natural world and animal life.

Danny Tipping, director of production at Parthenon, added: “We have nurtured a very special relationship with Nat Geo over the years. This new documentary demonstrates our world-class capabilities in both advanced CGI and natural history programming.”

In March 2010, Nat Geo extended its output deal with Parthenon for a further two years.
