Nat Geo nabs AOL, Netflix digital execs

National Geographic Partners has hired execs from AOL and Netflix to help drive its digital output.

David Miller has been named senior VP and general manager for nationalgeographic.com, while Kyle Christensen has joined as VP of channel social and digital strategy.

Miller will report to Rachel Webber, executive VP of digital, who joined the company just under a year ago.

Miller, who was previously VP of product management at AOL, will be responsible for the day-to-day experiences for consumers and advertising partners on Nat Geo’s website. He has also been tasked with leading Nat Geo’s consumer and revenue growth goals.

Christensen, who helped Netlfix launch its Marvel series and original Narcos, will lead the social strategy for Nat Geo’s broadcast channels. He will also be responsible for the development and execution of the company’s creative and comprehensive digital strategies for new shows and films. He will report to Jonathan Hunt, senior VP of social and audience development, also a recent hire.

Miller and Christensen are the latest in a list of recent high-profile hires at Nat Geo as the company looks to expand its digital team. Marcus East, who was previously at Apple, joined earlier in 2017 as exec VP of product and technology, while Marcelo Galdieri arrived as senior VP of digital product.
