Nat Geo Music tunes up for Italian debut

National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has confirmed its 24-hour music channel Nat Geo Music will debut in Italy in October, and has named content partners EMI, Warner Music, Sony and Universal.

C21 first reported that NGCI plans to launch the channel here, but the company has now gone public about the move, naming content partners and a debut broadcaster.

Nat Geo Music will be seen first on the Sky platform in Italy on October 15, featuring content from music labels EMI Arabia, Warner Music Latin America, Sony/BMG Asia and Universal Italy.

Primetime weekly programming blocks featuring on the new channel include Place Jam, which focuses on music from a specific country; We Love…, dedicated to artists and genres such as reggae; Music Nomad, which connects the concept of travelling with music; and the two-hour Friday- and Saturday-night dance block UNTZ.

“Nat Geo Music fills a significant void in current conventional music offerings,” said NGCI’s CEO David Haslingden. “With its international scope, not only are viewers able to explore their world using music as a vehicle, they are tuned in to ground-breaking sounds that are transforming the industry globally.”

The announcement follows the company’s recent launch of the National Geographic Music and Radio unit, which will provide Nat Geo Music with much of its content, as will the National Geographic Live! event group.

Nat Geo Music joins the National Geographic Channel, National Geographic Channel HD, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Adventure in NGCI’s stable.
