Mullin fills Myers’ shoes at Science

Discovery Communications has promoted Rita Mullin to general manager of its Science Channel following the departure of Debbie Adler Myers.

Mullin is presently executive VP of programming and development at Discovery joint venture OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network but will take up her new position on June 2.

She will replace Myers, who is leaving after nine years, six of which have been with Science Channel, where she was responsible for the launch of programmes including Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, Outrageous Acts of Science and the network’s first scripted feature The Challenger Disaster.

Mullin will report to Eileen O’Neill, group president of Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Velocity, who made the announcement on Monday.

During her time with OWN, Mullin was involved in the commissioning of series including Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s, Six Little McGhees, Our America with Lisa Ling and Life with La Toya.

She has been with Discovery for 18 years, starting as senior VP for content strategy at Discovery Fit & Health and holding roles with TLC and Discovery Health Channel.
