MTV goes free to air in Germany

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is launching youth entertainment channel MTV free to air (FTA) for the first time in Germany.

The 24-hour music and entertainment channel will be made available on December 23, via satellite, cable networks, IPTV, internet TV, live stream on MTV.de/live and on the free MTV Play App for iOS and Android.

The channel will feature music formats, events and entertainment targeting youth audiences. The standard line-up will include a mix of MTV entertainment programming as well as 13 hours of music per day.

Viacom has previously launched FTA versions of its Comedy Central and Nickelodeon channels in Germany and also operates music channel Viva.

The channel’s return on December 23 will boast a line-up including three episodes of music documentary series Dare to Live, fronted by Rory Kramer and featuring Shawn Mendes, Martin Garrix and The Chainsmokers.

Also on the schedule will be two German format productions: MTV Buzz, in which host Uli Brase discusses music videos, and the Top 100 Official Annual Charts, which looks back at the biggest hits of 2017.
