MTV recommissions UK originals

MTV in the UK has ordered a second season of dating show Ex on the Beach, while reality series Geordie Shore is about to get its ninth outing on the Viacom-owned channel.

Ex on the Beach is produced by UK indie Whizz Kid Entertainment and takes single men and women on holiday without them knowing their former partners are joining them.

The show was MTV’s highest-ever series launch in the UK when it debuted in April, while the series has also aired in the US, marking the first time an MTV UK commission has been broadcast by its sister channel stateside.

Meanwhile, Geordie Shore will return for a ninth season on the channel after its eighth run began last night in the UK.

The show, which follows a group of nightlife-loving men and women from the North East of England, launched in May 2011 and is produced by Lime Pictures.
