MTG wins more Olympic rights

Scandinavian entertainment group Modern Times Group (MTG) has acquired rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games for the Baltics.

MTG’s channel group Viasat Broadcasting will air the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Financial terms of the agreement with sports marketing firm SportFive International, were not disclosed.

MTG-owned free-to-air broadcasters in each territory will air one popular disciple exclusively, while the firm’s local pay-TV nets will broadcast all events with local language commentary and highlights packages featuring current and archive footage.

Earlier this year, Viasat partnered with Norwegian pubcaster NRK to secure 3D coverage of this year’s London Olympics for one of its channels.
