MTG wins Czech football rights

Modern Times Group (MTG) has expanded its sports coverage in Europe by acquiring UEFA Champions League broadcasting rights in the Czech Republic.

MTG already broadcasts Europe’s main club football tournament across Scandinavia and Eastern Europe and in Ghana.

Now it has picked up rights to air all matches from the tournament played on a Tuesday, and all but one of the Wednesday games, which will still be shown by state broadcaster Czech TV, up to and including the semi-finals.

General entertainment free-to-air channel Prima Cool will show the games and the deal also includes mobile and internet coverage.

The new agreement with Team Marketing, UEFA’s worldwide agent for commercial Champions League rights, runs from the start of the 2012/13 season until the end of the 2014/15 season.

As well as Prima Cool, MTG also operates Prima Family and Prima Love as part of its portfolio of Czech free-to-air channels.

Nova Sport previously aired Champions League football in the Czech Republic alongside Czech TV.
