MTG orders job cuts in Sweden

European broadcast giant Modern Times Group (MTG) is preparing to cut jobs at its free to air networks in Sweden as part of a restructuring of the company’s operations in the territory.

MTG operates TV3, TV6, TV8 and TV10, as well as their respective catch-up services, in Sweden with around 150 staff working across the FTA division.

Affected departments and the extent of the job losses are yet to be revealed but in a statement, MTG said the decision to cut back on numbers had come after a “thorough examination of the company’s organisation, in order to make it more competitive and give it the right focus for the future.”

“The media industry is in a period of great change,” added Anders Jensen, CEO of MTG TV Sweden and head of MTG’s free-TV operations in Scandinavia. “We must adapt to it, and build an organisation that is well equipped and properly adjusted going forward.”

MTG operates in pay and FTA markets across Europe and most recently launched entertainment VoD service JuicyPlay in Denmark and Sweden.
