MTG makes Disney deal

Scandinavian broadcaster Modern Times Group (MTG) has extended its content deal with Disney, with the US company’s shows set to air across Viaplay and Viasat services.

The agreement means movies, animated features, classics and hit series from Disney and its siblings such as Marvel, Lucasfilm and Disney Pixar will be available for viewers.

Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD will remain available on Viasat throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions, while MTG has first-window rights to theatrical releases in the Nordic region.

Movies including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Captain America: Civil War and Vaiana will be made available, while classics including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and The Lion King are also included.

MTG’s on demand service Viaplay will also allow fans to access ABC Studios On Demand, featuring the likes of Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Scandal and Quantico.

Casper Bjørner, country manager for The Walt Disney Company Nordic, said: “After decades of successful collaboration, we are completely united in our vision to deliver a world-class entertainment experience together.”
