MTG launches VR app

Scandinavian broadcaster MTG has launched a virtual reality (VR) app that offers immersive and interactive experiences to viewers in the Nordic region.

Viareal will deliver exclusive VR content connected to MTG’s eSports and sporting events, as well as extensions of its broadcast and streamed entertainment programming.

Users will be able to watch football’s Champions League final in June via the app, which is compatible with all Android and iOS devices as well as headsets such as Gear VR.

Viewers will be able to visit the dressing rooms of their favourite sports team and take virtual tours inside some of MTG’s hit free TV series such as Paradise Hotel.

Viareal will also offer original VR productions tailored for VR platforms and headsets, including Norwegian Love, Nordic Haute Route and VR & Chill.

Viktor Ängmo, head of product at MTG Tech, said: “The global VR story is just starting and MTG aims to be a positive force in the ecosystem and to catalyse the Nordic region’s VR possibilities.”

MTG provided 360-degree coverage of the Rio Olympics last year and offers live VR streams from eSports events including ESL and DreamHack.
