Mouse House catches magic rabbit

MIP JUNIOR: Disney Channel EMEA has acquired a forthcoming animated series coproduced by Brown Bag Films in Ireland and Cyber Group Studios in France.

Gilbert and Allie

Set to launch in Europe in 2017, Gilbert & Allie (52×11′) is a supernatural comedy about a teenage girl who discovers she has extraordinary powers.

Unfortunately for her, her powers can only be harnessed in partnership with an ancient, grumpy, magical rabbit who wants to retire.

Aimed at 8-11 year-olds, it was created by the Irish prodco’s Bronagh O’Hanlon, who will also direct, and will feature a mix of CG and 2D animation.

Paris-based Cyber Group Studios, which recently shook up its production and sales teams, will distribute the series internationally.

Disney has been a frequent partner from Brown Bag Films, which has supplied animation for the broadcasters series Henry Hugglemonster and Doc McStuffins.

The Irish company was recently acquired by Canada’s 9 Story Media Group, a deal that it said would allow it to grow the team in Dublin by 50 more staff in the near future.
