Mother Media, STX to partner

MIPTV: US prodco Mother Media Group (MMG) has struck a first-look content development deal with STXtv, the TV arm of studio and next-generation media company STX Entertainment.

The partnership will create, produce and distribute unscripted and hybrid drama/documentary series for broadcast networks, new media and cable in the US, China, India and internationally.

MMG was recently formed by Eden Gaha, following his departure from Endemol Shine, and former Fox Studio lawyer Wynn Rees.

The firm is coproducing Amazon Prime Video’s series about All or Nothing: New Zealand All Blacks, about New Zealand’s national rugby union team. It is also working with Universal Television Alternative Studio on NBC’s popular science series The Awesome Show, starring Chris Hardwick.

Gaha is associated with shows like MasterChef and MasterChef Junior, The Biggest Loser and Hunted, which he exec produced while at Endemol Shine North America. Prior to that he was a producer at Mark Burnett Productions on shows such as Celebrity Apprentice and CBS series Survivor.

STXtv’s projects now on air include hybrid drama/doc Valley of the Boom for National Geographic and The Platinum Life on E!. It also has a number of project in development, including an unscripted series inspired by the Bad Moms film franchise at Fox.

Previous productions include Number One Surprise, coproduced by STX Entertainment and XG Entertainment in 2016, billed as the first US-China coproduction. It launched on Hunan TV, online VoD services Mango TV and PPTV.

Jason Goldberg, STX’s chief creative officer for unscripted and alternative programming, said the partnership would have an “a eye towards productions that have the potential to travel across the globe.”
