Japanese toy spin-off Moncchichi

A children’s series based on 1970s Japanese plush toy range Monchhichi is moving ahead after Paris-based Technicolor Animation Productions signed a coproduction deal with France’s TF1.

Technicolor (fka Ouido! Productions) picked up rights to the property from Japanese toy giant Sekiguchi two years ago and is now moving ahead with a 52×11’ CGI series after bringing TF1 onboard.

Sekiguchi launched Monchhichi plush toys in 1974 and more than 70 million dolls plus accessories have been sold in at least 40 countries since.

With the series now set to move forward, PGS Entertainment will act as international media distribution partner.
