MiTú hires after funding boost

Latino-focused YouTube channels operator MiTú has made what it calls its “most significant staffing expansion to date” by appointing three executives following a successful US$10m funding round.

The Los Angeles-based media group has named Jeff Mayo as its new senior VP of business and revenue operations, leading strategy across all areas of business operations.

Mayo joins MiTú from US web channel Machinima, where he was VP of sales and advertising operations, following spells with Google and YouTube.

Daniel Batista joins MiTú as its VP and head of strategic partnerships and business development. He was most recently head of strategic planning at mobile audio firm Audience and has worked across global television and feature film distribution sales.

Cesar Martinez, who joins from US entertainment firm Live Nation, where he was VP of multi-cultural sales, is now VP of sales and branded entertainment at MiTú. Martinez will work across content integration and branded business and has previously worked for Terra Networks.

The three execs taking up the newly created positions will report to Charlie Echeverry, chief revenue officer at MiTú.

Roy Burstin, CEO at MiTú, said the appointments would enable the firm to “expand our original and partner offerings in the Latino digital entertainment space” and “to build brand and content loyalty.”

The expansion of MiTú, which creates content and operates channels dedicated exclusively to Latino content, comes after it raised US$10m in a funding round led by LA-based venture capital firm Upfront Ventures, the original investors behind Maker Studios.
