Danish prodco Miso Film is producing a new relationship crime drama as its 2011 hit Those Who Kill heads to UK diginet ITV3.

Miso is preparing to shoot Dicte (10×45’), about a divorced mother whose work as a newspaper reporter leads her to investigate crimes in Aarhaus, the country’s second biggest city.

Filming for the series, based on the books by Elsebeth Egholm, will begin on May 14 and it will air on Danish broadcaster TV2 in spring 2013.

Producer Jonas Allen told C21: “It’s called relationship crime because it has a story about a main character being single in her early 40s. She’s a family-led character who works on a newspaper and meets police officers at the crime scenes she visits. It’s about her, her friends, her love life and teenage daughter.

“There’s been a lot of crime coming out of both Denmark and Sweden. What we tried to do with this is add a layer of relationships in with the crime.”

Egholm is also the author of Those Who Kill, another crime drama produced by Miso Film for TV2 that has now been acquired by ITV3 in the UK.

The 6×120’ series follows a special unit of Copenhagen’s police force consisting of a detective inspector and forensic psychiatrist who specialise in tracking down serial killers.

It aired on TV2 last year and, following a deal with distributor Entertainment One, has now been picked up by ITV3 and slated for a February 23 debut.

Miso Film is also a coproduction partner on Danish pubcaster DR’s epic historical drama called 1864, about the country’s war with Germany to mark the conflict’s 150th anniversary in 2014.

The 8×58’ series has a budget of 160DK (US$28.5m) and will be directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch).

Allen said: “It’s one of the biggest fights in Danish history but it’s not just a war story. It won’t be eight hours of a battle. It’s also a love story. It will be the biggest ever historical drama in Denmark.”

Shooting on 1864 is set to begin in January 2013.
