Miramax closes Brazil streaming deal

US film and television studio Miramax has signed a multi-year licensing deal with video-streaming site NetMovies Entertainment, the Brazilian rival to Netflix.

From December 1, NetMovies customers will be able to stream Miramax titles including Pulp Fiction, The English Patient, There Will Be Blood and Kill Bill.

Online subscription service NetMovies currently offers around 35,000 movies and TV shows as mail-order DVD and Blu-ray discs and for online streaming. The latter can be accessed on a range of devices including PCs, smart TVs, iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.

The deal comes after Miramax licensed its content in September to Netflix in Latin America and the Caribbean, following Netflix’s roll-out as a digital-only service in 43 countries there.

Miramax also licenses its content to Netflix in the US and has agreed to make its content available on the service when it launches in the UK and Ireland at the beginning of next year.

“This is another key step as we take advantage of digital channels to maximise our library around the world and bring Miramax movies to new and growing audiences, especially to such an exciting and emerging market as Brazil,” said Miramax CEO Mike Lang.
