Midnight Sun rises in Africa

African pay network M-Net has picked up scripted series Midnight Sun and The Five from StudioCanal.

Midnight Sun was Sweden’s first scripted copro with France

Midnight Sun will debut in 58 African territories on M-Net’s new foreign-language block.

The 8×60’ series is coproduced by French pay TV company Canal+, Swedish pubcaster SVT and Filmpool Nord, and produced by France’s Atlantique Productions and Scandinavia’s Nice Drama.

The thriller was created by Mårlind & Stein (Bron/Broen) and based on an idea by Henrik Jansson-Schweizer and Patrick Nebout.

The show has already been sold to broadcasters including Sky Atlantic in the UK, Hot in Israel, NRK in Norway, Danish pubcaster DR, RUV in Iceland, MTV3 in Finland and VRT in Belgium by distributor StudioCanal.

Meanwhile, The Five hails from StudioCanal-owned Red Production Company and was originally produced for Sky1 in the UK.

The drama, which has been sold into territories including Japan, marks the first original story for television from best-selling novelist Harlan Coben.
