MGM takes on Vimeo’s Toles for digital

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios has added an executive from online video platform Vimeo to work across its digital operations.

Sam Toles takes the newly created role of senior VP of digital and new platforms at MGM Studios, created as part of the studio’s increasing focus on digital content. Toles will report to Kevin Conroy, MGM’s president of digital and new Platforms, and will be based in Los Angeles.

His remit includes leading efforts around digital and shortform programming development and distribution, including leveraging existing MGM IP and creating new content.

Toles joins from Vimeo where he was senior VP and general manager of Vimeo’s entertainment group, where he directed all aspects of programming for the global video sharing platform.

Prior to that he worked for New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers, as well as Paramount Pictures and FremantleMedia.

“Sam’s experience in digital media will accelerate our efforts in developing and creating compelling new content for today’s digital platforms, and will help to shape our company’s strategy as new platforms emerge,” said Conroy.

Toles added: “MGM is on the cutting edge of content creation and development for digital platforms. I look forward to working with the team to help advance the company into this new and exciting segment of the industry.”
