MGM strikes German JV with Red Arrow

MGM’s Funderdome is fronted by Steve Harvey

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Worldwide Television Distribution has agreed a new coproduction and sales venture with Red Arrow Entertainment Group prodco RedSeven Entertainment.

The multi-year joint venture will see RedSeven coproduce and distribute local versions of MGM’s unscripted formats in Germany. Shows on the slate include Steve Harvey’s funding show Funderdome, competition series American Gladiators and design programme Minor Renovations.

“With MGM’s proven track record of inventive formats and RedSeven’s versatile production expertise, this venture gives MGM the ability to offer German broadcasters a turn-key format and production package, allowing them to bring quality programming to viewers,” said Chris Ottinger, president of worldwide television distribution and acquisitions at MGM.

Jobst Benthues, MD of RedSeven Entertainment, added: “Our joint venture with MGM will secure us with additional attractive content for many years to come, allowing us to continue to expand our production output in Germany.”

RedSeven Entertainment is responsible for producing shows including Germany’s Next Top Model (ProSieben), Married at First Sight (SAT.1) and The Biggest Loser (SAT.1).

Earlier this year MGM revamped its senior management, making a series of appointments including the addition of a former CBS Studios International exec.
