The Heart Goes Last tells the story of a young urban couple who have been hit by job losses and bankruptcy in the midst of a nationwide economic collapse. The novel was published in fall 2015 and has been printed in 18 languages.

It marks the second collaboration between Atwood and the studio, which worked together on The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s set to launch on US video streamer Hulu next year.

The rights for The Heart Goes Last were negotiated by ICM Partners for Atwood. Lindsay Sloane, MGM’s executive VP of television production, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
