MGM commits Mutiny at MipTV

MGM International Television Distribution is taking a reality format to MipTV that attempts to recreate Captain Bligh’s 4,000-mile journey across the Pacific Ocean in a tiny wooden boat.

Mutiny aired on Channel 4 in the UK this month

Mutiny (5×60′), which began airing on Channel 4 in the UK this month, sees nine men set out in a 23ft open boat to recreate the journey of the men who were set adrift after Fletcher Christian’s infamous mutiny on HMS Bounty.

MGM distributed the original 1935 film Mutiny on the Bounty, which was one of the biggest hit films of its time.

The factual entertainment format, produced by Argonon-owned UK production outfit Windfall Films for Channel 4, is the latest addition to the US studio’s unscripted slate.

MGM Television’s other unscripted series include Steve Harvey’s Funderdome (13×60′), a competition show for budding entrepreneurs, and The New Celebrity Apprentice (13×60′), hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It will also shop scripted titles including Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (10×60′), starring Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and Samira Wiley; Get Shorty (10×60′), a dark comedy with Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd inspired by Elmore Leonard’s 1990 novel; and Condor (10×60′), starring Max Irons and inspired by Sydney Pollack’s 1975 political thriller Three Days of the Condor.

In addition, the company will offer new seasons of dramas such as Fargo (20×60′), Teen Wolf and Vikings.
