Rights to the Spanish-language version, which will be based on the first two seasons of the original, have also been picked up by US Hispanic network Univision for its sister channel Unimas, and by a yet-to-be confirmed channel in Colombia.

Pomodoro Stories secured rights for Mexico and Colombia last year and the firm’s MD, Brendan Fitzgerald, assisted with the latest deal.

The Televisa version, is being made by Productions RTI Colombia, which has been behind Queen of the South and most recently Griselda Blanco – The Black Widow.

The original format was produced by Tender Productions and aired for two seasons on Israel’s Keshet Broadcasting from 2010 under the original title Hatufin.

The format is sold by the global distribution arm of Keshet Media Group, which has already agreed deals in South Korea (Star J Entertainment), Russia (WeitMedia), Turkey (Medyapim) and the US (Fox21 and Showtime).

The show is also being developed in Brazil by local prodco Mixer Productions, as revealed by C21 in March.

The finished series of Prisoners of War has been picked up by more than 20 territories including the UK (Sky Arts), Australia (SBS), Brazil (Globosat) and Norway (NRK).
