Metan, Todou extend Hollywood ties

Chinese VoD site Tudou has partnered with Metan Development Group to launch an online network dedicated to Hollywood entertainment news content.

The network, branded simply ‘Hollywood’, comes in response to what Metan calls an “insatiable thirst” for content focusing on Western celebrity culture from viewers in China.

Launching this month, the network’s flagship series will be a revamped version of Metan’s Hello! Hollywood series – available in China since 2010 – which will relaunch as a 30-minute, weekly talkshow.

Daily entertainment news reports will also feature, alongside behind-the-scenes coverage of major red carpet events and premieres, exclusive set visits, as well as spotlight the best work by up and coming producers.

Segments will also focus on Western television shows that are currently popular in China’s online, including Two Broke Girls, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, and The Voice, say Metan.

“The channel will provide a way for Hollywood content producers and Western celebrities to connect in new way with Chinese consumers, particularly with the extremely attractive 35 and under demo,” said Weidong Yang, president, Tudou.

Industry veteran and Metan president/CEO Larry Namer, one of the cofounders of E! Entertainment Television, set up Metan in 2009 to develop and distribute entertainment content and media specifically for international markets.
