CDN was formed by Pact, Bafta, the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5/Viacom, Creative Skillset, ITN, ITV, Media Trust, S4C, Sky and Turner Broadcasting to promote, celebrate and share good practice around diversity.

McVay joined the CDN as chair in January 2015 and has worked with broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky to improve diversity monitoring in the UK industry under the Project Diamond initiative.

It has also launched a programme that aims to ensure that TV shows and commissioning teams better reflect the make-up of the UK.

McVay said: “The CDN’s work has made real inroads into improving diversity in the TV sector, not least with the development and implementation of Diamond this year – a world first for diversity monitoring.

“I look forward to spending the next two years overseeing the first reports from Diamond and hopefully we will be able to see that a real difference is being made”.

Deborah Williams, chief executive of CDN, added: “CDN was constituted as a company limited by guarantee with the core broadcasters as members. John has overseen this transition and we are looking forward to continuing to work with him to build on these foundations, in particular following the launch of Project Diamond.”
