MBC wants more Telefe formats

Middle Eastern broadcaster MBC Group has picked up another Argentinean scripted format for local production.

The company has acquired format rights to The Chairwoman (32×60′), the original being a coproduction between Telefe and Endemol in Argentina. The series tells the story of an enterprising businesswoman who owns an international cosmetics company.

Maria del Rosario Cosentino, Telefe International’s international business executive for the Middle East, told C21 that MBC’s deal gives it rights to produce an Arab version of the series. MBC subsidiary 03 Productions will make the show.

The deal comes after MBC optioned the remake rights to Telefe telenovela format Dulce Amor (aka Candy Love, 150×60′) a few months ago and recently debuted its own adaptation of another Telefe drama, Montecristo.

The original Dulce Amor was a Telefe coproduction with LCA Producciones, the prodco of Enrique Estevanez, creator of Love’s Guard. Montecristo (145×60′) is a Telefe production that aired in 2006.

“With the recent release of Montecristo, plus the option for Candy Love and the licence for The Chairwoman in the Middle East, Telefe is one of the main Latin players for this region,” said Telefe director of international business Fernando Varela.
