M-Net proposes Marry Me to 1Magic

Marry Me Now was originally produced by Armoza Formats and Zipi Rozenblum

African pay TV broadcaster M-Net has commissioned its first season of docu-reality series Marry Me Now.

M-Net, owned by media group Naspers, will broadcast the 13-episode series on youth-skewing channel 1Magic in all 46 Sub-Saharan African countries.

Originally produced by Armoza Formats and Zipi Rozenblum, the show gives women who have been waiting for their partner to pop the question the chance to plan their wedding and then challenge him to marry her on the spot.

Marry Me Now has been sold into 10 territories and recently aired on Russia’s U Channel.

Reneilwe Sema, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, said the show “offers the fun viewing” that appeals to 1Magic viewers.

In related news, M-Net has ordered a South African version of NBCUniversal International Formats hit series The Real Housewives, also for 1Magic.

Produced by independent prodco RHOSA, The Real Housewives of Johannesburg (12×60’) will mark the first official version in the country and the 13th international deal for the format overall.

The show, which will air on 1Magic in August 2018, will focus on six affluent, Johannesburg-based women and their lavish lifestyles.
