Luther star’s family inspires PBS, BBC drama

US broadcaster PBS has unveiled a drama coproduced with the BBC based on the complicated lives of Luther actress Ruth Wilson’s grandparents.

Actress Ruth Wilson

Mrs Wilson (working title) will be a three-parter written by Anna Symon (Indian Summers) and executive produced by Wilson, Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Casual Vacancy) and Neil Blair (The Strike Series).

BBC senior commissioning editor Lucy Richer and Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton are also attached, while All3Media International will sell globally.

The show, which will air as part of PBS’s Masterpiece strand, is set in the 1940s and 1960s in London, and in 1930s India. It will star Wilson and is based on the memoir of her grandmother.

Wilson said: “I am so excited to bring to the small screen the extraordinary lives of my grandparents. Theirs is a profoundly moving story and Masterpiece on PBS is the perfect home for it.”

In related news, PBS has ordered documentary series Nova Wonders (6×60′), which will launch 25 April.

The series is being hosted by three young scientists and will follow researchers who are tackling the biggest unanswered questions about life and the cosmos.

Series producers are Michael Bicks and Anna Lee Strachan, while Julia Cort executive produces and the senior executive producer is Paula S Apsell.
