Lowinski gets second bite at US

Danni Lowinski originally aired on Sat.1 in Germany

German comedy drama Danni Lowinski is to get a second go at cracking the US, with 20th Century Fox and Intrigue Entertainment picking up the format and NBC funding script development.

Red Arrow International distributes the format for the show, the original 65×60’ version of which aired on Sat.1 in Germany, produced by Markus Brunnemann and UFA Fiction.

The plot follows a former hairdresser turned law graduate who sets up a low-cost legal practice in a shopping centre after being rejected by conventional law firms.

In 2011, the format was picked up by CBS, which put a 13-part first season into development for its sister channel The CW.

CBS Television Studios produced what was billed as the first US adaptation of a German format but it failed to make it beyond the pilot stage before being dropped.

20th century Fox and Intrigue Entertainment will now try again, following a deal with Red Arrow International’s VP of sales and acquisitions for North America, Shirley Bowers.

Ian Brennan, who co-created Glee and Scream Queens, is writing and executive producing.

Henrik Pabst, MD of Red Arrow International, said: “We have always believed that Danni Lowinski will make a great US show, with its strong, charismatic female lead who fights for justice, and does it with plenty of passion, wit and intelligence.”
