The first season of Cineflix’s period cop drama will be available to UK members of the VoD platform’s Instant streaming service from September 13.

Copper is set in 1860s New York City during the last gasps of the American Civil War and follows a police detective who returns from the war to discover that his daughter has been murdered and his wife is missing.

It is now the second show, after History’s Norse epic Vikings, to make its debut in the UK on LoveFIlm Instant, bypassing traditional broadcasters to bring the whole series to viewers in one go.

The deal also comes as Cineflix prepares to scale back its Canadian activities to focus more on the UK and US. The company has also said it is stepping back from producing high cost drama programming to focus on unscripted content.

Copper, Cineflix’s first ever drama, was produced in Canada but managed out of the US. The show’s 2012 debut on BBC America was the network’s highest rated series premiere ever, with 1.8 million viewers, and production recently began on a second season.
