LL Cool J lives up to name on MSNBC

US news network MSNBC has partnered with hip-hop star and actor LL Cool J for a three-part documentary series exploring what it means to be cool.

Produced by Brooklyn-based Part2 Pictures, Getty Images and LL Cool J Inc, The Story of Cool investigates people, places and things through the ages that have come to define the concept.

The 3×60’ series will explore a different element of cool in each episode and will feature interviews with personalities including rapper and actor Ice Cube, entertainer James Corden, senior VP of content and brands at US digital publishing firm Interactive One Kierna Mayo and writer and journalist Malcolm Gladwell.

The Story of Cool has been created by Jonathan Gruber and Tom Cohen, who will exec produce alongside LL Cool J. Part2’s David Shadrack Smith and Amy Bucher and Getty Images’ Gene Foca will also exec produce.

The first episode, Cool in Charge, will premiere on Sunday July 1 at 21.00 ET with episodes Cool for Sale and Cool Rivalries following weekly.
