Lionsgate signs Dear White People creator

The creator, writer and producer behind Netflix comedy series Dear White People has linked up with Lionsgate Television to develop original series.

The partnership is an expansion of Lionsgate’s longstanding relationship with Justin Simien, who was behind Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions’ break-out feature film Dear White People and the critically acclaimed Lionsgate series of the same name.

The move follows the recent announcement of a third season of the show as well as the signing up of its showrunner, Yvette Lee Bowser (Black-ish), who agreed a similar deal with Lionsgate last month.

Other talent on Lionsgate’s roster includes Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men); Courtney Kemp (Power); Paul Feig (The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale); Eugenio Derbez and Ben O’Dell (Overboard, Instructions Not Included); Nashville’s Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz; Joel Silver (The Matrix and Lethal Weapon franchises); and Dexter’s John Goldwyn.
