Lifetime orders Omen follow-up

US cablenet Lifetime has placed a straight-to-series order for a follow-up to classic horror film The Omen, from former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara.

Damien, which launches on the A+E Networks-owned channel in early 2015, will be produced by Fox Television Studios and is based on Twentieth Century Fox’s 1976 film.

The six-episode series follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the motion picture who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him.

Haunted by his past, he must now come to terms with his true destiny that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.

Damien will be written and exec produced by Mazzara (The Shield) via his 44 Strong Productions.

Ross Fineman (Lights Out), who developed the project alongside Mazzara, exec produces through his firm, Fineman Entertainment, while Pancho Mansfield is also attached as exec producer.

The show comes through Mazzara’s overall deal with Fox Television Studios, as well as Fineman and Mansfield’s first-look deals with the studio.

It’s the latest eye-catching drama commission from Lifetime, following the order of a scripted miniseries based on the life of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe earlier this month.
