Lice Mother format jumps around Europe

Lice Mother

Red Arrow Studios International has picked up distribution rights to a Dutch scripted format that has become broadcaster NPO3’s most-watched show ever and is getting remade in Germany and Belgium.

Set in a primary school, Lice Mother follows a recently divorced child psychologist who is thrown into the strange warzone of the school playground, where she faces the job of checking the kids for head lice.

It is produced by Bing Film & TV for AvroTros/NPO3 in the Netherlands, where it has been recommissioned for a second season. It is helmed by Dutch director Jan-Albert de Weerd and written by Ilse Warringa, Diederik Ebbinge and Eva Aben.

With audiences of more than 5.2 million and a 40% market share, it has broken NPO3 rating records, and has the highest ever recorded online viewing figures in the Netherlands.

Furthermore, the scripted format has recently been commissioned for multiple seasons by Sat.1 in Germany and VTM in Belgium.

Alex Fraser, senior VP of acquisitions at Red Arrow Studios International, said: “Lice Mother pairs Jan-Albert de Weerd’s signature charm and humour with the incredible talent behind some of Dutch TV’s biggest drama and comedy successes.”
