Liberty linked to Intel’s OTT service

US cable giant Liberty Global is reportedly in talks to acquire Intel Media’s proposed over-the-top TV service, a project spearheaded by former BBC digital chief Erik Huggers.

Liberty Global, led by US magnate John Malone, would use Intel’s OnCue TV in its international cable systems, according to a Bloomberg report.

The news comes after recent reports that US communications giant Verizon was also looking at OnCue, which Intel promised to offer earlier this year but which is now said to have been sidelined. There was also speculation that Huggers was hoping to take the top spot at Hulu amid reports that OnCue was in jeopardy.

A spokesman for Liberty Global in London denied the talks, saying Bloomberg’s story was “without foundation.” A spokesman for Intel declined to comment.
