French media group Lagardère Active has acquired linear and non-linear rights to Badanamu, the CGI-animated online hit for preschoolers.

Lagardère has taken rights for French-speaking Europe and Africa to a package of content that includes animated shorts, more than 70 songs and the series Badanamu Imagine That! (52×8′), which is currently in production.

The edutainment show will be broadcast on Lagardère’s TV networks TiJi and Gulli as well as its YouTube channels. The deal was made with producers Producer Calm Island and Paris-based LNC Media.

“It is a chance for us to develop this property in France and every French-speaking territory in Africa. With our powerful brands, Gulli & TiJi, we will implement a real 360º strategy,” said Caroline Cochaux, MD for France and International at Lagardère Active TV and CEO of Gulli.

“Badanamu, with its lively pace and originality, will entertain our TV viewers and their parents alike, and we will adapt it to the current mode of consumption by offering this programme in every format possible.”

According to Lagardère, South Korean education company Calm Island has invested more than US$10m in the brand to create assets including 500 mini-games, 20 apps and a dedicated YouTube channel.
