BCWW: Two Korean TV companies are teaming up with a Spanish production outfit to make a travel/adventure series to broadcast this December.

[1]Korean cable channel Mountain TV and producer-distributor Bethel Global Media Contents (BGMC) are working with Zanskar Producciones of Leon, Spain on Strangers in the Wild (3×60′).

The show follows two hosts – one from Korea, one from Spain – as they travel and explore each other’s countries. It is currently in pre-production and shooting is due to start in October.

“Most coproductions involving Korean companies are with other Asian countries like Vietnam or Singapore, so this is possibly the first coproduction between Korea and Spain,” BGMC’s chief marketing officer KKotbi Lee told C21 here at the BCWW convention in Seoul.

“However, Spain is a very popular holiday destination for Koreans. We also hope to use this series as a pilot to make other international coproductions based on the same format.”

The show – which is being 70% funded by the Korean Cultural Agency and is also set to air on terrestrial broadcaster KBS – is part of the international production and distribution drive at BGMC, led by CEO Miles Choi.

Strangers in the Wild is also part of the 150 hours of original programming that nature-themed Mountain TV produces every year, some by its in-house arm LK Media, some by external suppliers like BGMC.

Mountain’s best-selling series, however, is Everyman Expedition, according to the channel’s marketing manager Kwon JiWon, who said the four-part series had sold into France, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
