Kiwi net TV3 revives dance format

Auckland-based MediaWorks’ channel TV3 is to revive the local version of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing format after a five-year hiatus in New Zealand.

TVNZ’s Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars, which hails from MediaWorks and BBC Worldwide ANZ, will see 10 Kiwi stars battle it out in a dance competition to take home the mirrorball trophy.

The judges’ scores, combined with the viewer vote, will decide who wins the top prize.

The show originally aired on New Zealand pubcaster TVNZ. However, the channel dropped the programme in 2010 due to financial issues.

The format has so far been licensed to 52 countries, with more than 250 series aired worldwide to date.
