Kevin Costner boards NGC doc

National Geographic Channel (NGC) has ordered a special from US prodco Leftfield Pictures that sees US actor Kevin Costner exploring the recent discovery of a photo featuring Wild West outlaw Billy the Kid.

Billy the Kid: New Evidence (1×120′) traces the origins of a rare photo purchased for US$2 at a California memorabilia shop in 2010, which is now thought to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It is believed to be only the second known photograph of Billy the Kid, with the show exploring the picture’s fortuitous discovery as well as its origin and authenticity.

The special premieres October 18 on Nat Geo in the US and 171 other countries. It’s being produced by Leftfield and 18THIRTY Entertainment for NGC, with Costner exec producing.
