Joyn orders maiden drama

Chile-set political thriler Dignity

Newly launched German streaming platform Joyn has ordered its first original drama series, political thriller Dignity.

The 8×52’ series was co-commissioned alongside Chilean network Mega.

Produced by Story House Productions in Germany and Chilean film and TV producer Invercine & Wood, in coproduction with Chilean TV fund CNTV and Mega, Dignity will air on Joyn in December and in Chile next year.

Red Arrow Studios International has secured global distribution rights to the drama and will launch it at Mipcom in October.

María Elena Wood and Patricio Pereira created the series, which is written by Andreas Gutzeit, with additional writing by Swantje Oppermann, Paula del Fierro and Enrique Videla.

Dignity is inspired by the true story of German sect Colonia Dignidad, which was established in Chile by former Nazi soldier Paul Schaefer. The cult engaged in four decades of torture, child abuse and murder and was protected by General Pinochet’s dictatorship.

“Joyn believes in local storytelling and this story is of German and international relevance,” said Katja Hofem, Joyn’s MD.

“This production is an important step for our young platform and shows our commitment to original production.”

Joyn launched in June after ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery came together to start a local streaming service to rival giants such as Netflix and Amazon.

Other original shows produced by Joyn include Singles’ Diaries and Technically Single.
