Pure McCartney VR, from US-based Jaunt Studios, is a six-part VR series made up of documentary shorts that explore the singer’s life and music.

It is being released as part of the launch of a career-spanning compilation album from McCartney, with each VR experience delving into the stories behind some of his most iconic songs.

Each track will be released via the Jaunt VR App, which is available on iOS, Android, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Desktop 360.

“We used to see artists connect with their fans through album covers and liner notes but that personal expression, and deeper understanding of the music, has diminished over the years,” said Cliff Plumer, president of Jaunt Studios.

“With virtual reality, Paul McCartney is taking the most innovative step yet; he’s connecting directly with his fans to share his innermost thoughts and experiences in an entirely new, personal and immersive way.”

undressedJaunt recently linked up with US-based production studio RYOT to produce the first docuseries that will provide a 360º VR experience.

In October, companies including Sky, Disney and ProSiebenSat.1 invested more than US$65m in the California-based firm, which has also agreed a partnership with Cartoon Network.
