Jane remade in Spain

Mediaset in Spain is to air a local version of Venezuelan telenovela Jane the Virgin following its adaptation in the US.

Jane the Virgin originates from Venezuela

The original Venezuelan production (Juana la Virgen) aired in 2002 and was created by Perla Farias and RCTV. It is has been called the country’s third most popular telenovela.

The US version airs on The CW and is made by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros Television in association with Electus, which distributes the format internationally.

The show, which centres on a hard-working, religious young Latina who is accidentally artificially inseminated, bowed as The CW’s highest-rated show in its time period in two years. It was recently renewed for a second season.
