iZen launches Newco in Barcelona

Spain’s iZen Producciones has linked with two local producers to form a scripted production company based in Barcelona.

Newco, set up with Joan Bas and Alexandre Bas, will focus on developing and producing drama series for local and international partners.

Bas’s recent productions include Antena3 and Netflix’s La Catedral del Mar (Cathedral of the Sea), which was adapted from Ildefonso Falcones’s period novel of the same name.

He previously founded Diagonal TV with iZen Producciones president José Velasco, in association with Zeppelin, and produced Spain’s first daily soap for Telecinco, El Super.

Bas, meanwhile, has executive produced series including Amar en Tiempos Revueltos (TVE), La Señora (TVE) and Isabel (TVE).

iZen Producciones, which claims to be the largest independent production group in Spain, was formed last year after Spanish companies Zebra Producciones and Veralia Contenidos agreed to merge their TV production activities.

Newco will become part of the iZen Group, which consists of iZen Producciones, Imagic in the Middle East, Elephant Group in France and Italy and Chalkboard TV in the UK.
