ITVSGE, Universal get on song

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE) and Universal Music Group have teamed up to bring a Chinese singing format to a global audience.

Sing My Song is Star China’s new hit primetime entertainment show that ITVSGE is distributing as a TV format internationally.

The show debuted on Chinese channel CCTV-3 earlier this year as part of a global distribution deal with ITVSGE on which Michel Rodrigue, CEO and partner at The Format People, consulted.

Under the new collaboration, Universal Music Group will provide support to broadcasters in the territories that acquire the format from ITVSGE to produce locally.

Part of Universal’s remit will be helping cast singer-songwriters as the show’s producer-judges, providing prizes and releasing original music from the series.

The format is a studio-based music contest that requires a judging panel of four musicians to mentor amateur singer-songwriters trying to progress through the competition with their own original songs. The experts must also look for songs that they can use on their own albums.
