ITVSGE, 42 sign drama deal

UK-based production and management firm 42 has signed a deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE) that will see the pair develop new internationally-focused TV dramas.

ITVSGE will help develop and distribute shows with 42, which is moving into TV production and already has several series in development with broadcasters.

42 has previously focused on feature film production, including Welcome to the Punch starring James McAvoy and exec produced by Ridley Scott.

Ruth Clarke, ITVSGE’s director of acquisitions and coproductions, said the firms would develop “strong dramas for international distribution” together, while 42 co-founder Rory Aitken said the pair would create “high-end dramas with exceptional talent from both film and TV.”

Clarke added that 42’s “track record in quality film production, coupled with their impressive on and off screen talent roster” would support its move into TV.

Aitken runs 42 along with Ben Pugh, Josh Varney and Kate Buckley and has actors including Michael Caine, Rhys Ifans and Charlotte Gainsbourg on its books, along with writers and directors such as William Monahan, Lynne Ramsay and Tom Harpe.

It’s the latest multi-year development deal for ITVSGE, which already has similar agreements in place with companies such as the UK’s Warp Films.
